1. Where is the study area?
The IL 53 study area is from West Arsenal Road to US 52 and located in the City of Joliet, the City of Wilmington, and the Village of Elwood, in Will County, Illinois.
2. What are the goals and objectives of the study?
The goal of the study is to evaluate ways to improve operations and safety along the IL 53 corridor. Improvements will be examined and refined until a detailed preferred improvement is selected that best suits the project.
3. Who is involved in this study?
The Illinois Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration act as the lead agencies for this project. Local government, federal agencies and the Community Advisory Group have been invited to take part in the stakeholder involvement process.
4. Who is a stakeholder?
A stakeholder is anyone who could be affected by, concerned with, or interested in the outcome of the proposed improvements being contemplated.
5. When will the design be completed?
The current engineering efforts are targeted to complete the Phase I study in 2018. This project is not included in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (Department) FY 2016-2021 Proposed Highway Improvement Program. However, this project will be included in the Department’s priorities for future funding consideration among similar improvement needs throughout the region.
